Self-Censorship

I shot a mother bathing her two children, a boy and a girl. I shot about forty frames or so, but when I was editing something to put on my blog, I hesitated. 'Will some crazy conservative or religious nut think that I'm Pete Townsend or something?' Although I didn't think about it when shooting and even showed the family my pictures on the back of my camera afterward, I suddenly became nervous that somebody would think I was a weirdo or something. I'm not, but just as the law that was mentioned in one of our MAPJ group e-mails about getting permission to photograph school children, it's another issue to mill over.

Hi Mike
It's a really sad predicament that you have to have second thoughts about whether you can photograph children or not. I have been finding it more difficult to photograph people on the streets recently in London- with various security staff trying to stop me. But at the moment it's definately not ilegal and you shouldn't have to worry.
