Photo Kids

With pre-school out I've been taking my two children along for the ride in my photo excursions. It's distracting particularly when they thrust themselves in front of the camera or wander off. My shooting time is usually limited with moods. One thing that they are great for is to soften the hearts of subjects that might otherwise not give me permission to photograph.

Self-Censorship

I shot a mother bathing her two children, a boy and a girl. I shot about forty frames or so, but when I was editing something to put on my blog, I hesitated. 'Will some crazy conservative or religious nut think that I'm Pete Townsend or something?' Although I didn't think about it when shooting and even showed the family my pictures on the back of my camera afterward, I suddenly became nervous that somebody would think I was a weirdo or something. I'm not, but just as the law that was mentioned in one of our MAPJ group e-mails about getting permission to photograph school children, it's another issue to mill over.

My Cute Kid's Birthday

My most useful application of my photography skills over the past few years (the time I've had children) is to keep the family and friends connected and updated weekly with lots of cute kid pictures and the like. Charles, baby number two, is one today. His nanny, Finoca, who he loves more than his parents, left yesterday to have a baby of her own and will be away for a few months, so I've gotten to spend some time, not all quality, with him. We have a temporary replacement nanny who is not so good, so I haven't had much time to do course work. I had forgotten how much time these creatures leech away.
